NYU’s 2009 Animation Show
This afternoon I saw the student animation show at NYU, an hour and a half of animation that preceeded the four-hour show at SVA. That’s a lot of animation. I won’t get into the SVA films just yet, but luckily my favorites from NYU are available online.
Harry Teitelman’s senior film is a rare mix of 2D, 3D, and physical sets. I’m happy to see a student work taking advantage of mixed media.
Strange Land from Harry Teitelman on Vimeo.
I was also introduced to animator Stevie Girard, who has a unique style and some really creative imagery. It’s a crime that both these shorts have under thirty views.

Steve’s work was cracking.
Comment by Elliot Cowan — May 8, 2009 @ 9:56 amI think probably better than anything else we saw from NYU.
I agree about Mr. Girard’s piece. A very unique style, and visually, it stood out from the rest. And the Human Duck piece had everyone reacting in some strange way.
Comment by Emmett Goodman — May 8, 2009 @ 12:37 pmIs “cracking” good? I think it must be.
Although the art production is too much by half in the duck one (and the editing was not strong.) “Cracking” nonetheless.
Comment by richard o'connor — May 8, 2009 @ 1:29 pm“Cracking” is indeed good.
To put it in animation terms, “Cracking toast, Gromit”.
Comment by Elliot Cowan — May 9, 2009 @ 9:04 amI arrived at that screening late so I’d missed Steve’s piece… very funny! Thanks for sharing.
